Overview

Our Marrakech to Fes tour departs on the first day from Marrakech and heads towards the High Atlas Mountains. We’ll pass through Tizi n’Tichka, the highest mountain pass in Morocco, and stop at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has served as the backdrop for many famous films. We’ll then continue through the Valley of the Roses and arrive in Dades Gorges, where we’ll spend the night in a local hotel. On the second day, we’ll drive through the stunning Todra Gorge and then into the vast expanse of the Sahara desert. Here, we’ll have the opportunity to ride camels and experience the thrill of crossing the desert dunes. As night falls, we’ll arrive at our traditional desert camp and enjoy a delicious dinner while gazing at the stars above. Finally, on the last day of the tour, we’ll head to the city of Erfoud, famous for its fossils, and the annual Date Festival. We’ll then travel to Fez, passing through cedar forests and the Middle Atlas Mountains, before arriving in the city late afternoon. Throughout the tour, you’ll be accompanied by an experienced local guide who will share their knowledge of the region’s history, culture, and traditions.

    ITINERARY

    Your Marrakech to Fes desert tour will start early in the morning. We depart Marrakech at 07h30 AM to Dades Kelaat Mgouna and cross the High Atlas Mountains to reach Tizi-n-Tichka, one of Morocco’s highest road passes (2260m). Here you will have the opportunity to take some perfect photos of this breathtaking view. We will drive through small Berber villages and beautiful landscapes to reach Kasbah Ait Ben Hadou the UNESCO world heritage, which also served as a set for various Hollywood blockbusters.

    After lunch, we drive to Kelaat Mgouna Dades, the Valley of the Roses Season in (mid-April to mid-May) before we reach our hotel.

    After breakfast, we travel to the spectacular gorge Todra (the highest oasis in Morocco). The gorge is cut into the ochre-colored cliffs of the High Atlas. Its walls are 300 meters high and at their most narrow part are 20 meters apart, the area is absolutely beautiful, and the sky is so blue. There are some significant climbing areas geared towards beginners with good bolt and anchor placement with moderate grades. It is easy to find climbing in all grades.

    After lunch, you will make your way toward Tinjdad to see the underground canal system, which is called Khettara. It is an old irrigation system.

    We reach Merzouga, which is known for the highest dunes in North Africa. It is called the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert. On our way, we will have the chance to see many oases, such as the Oasis of Tinjdad. After we arrive at Rissani, we will continue our way, enjoying the green oasis of palm trees of Ziz –Tafilalet and the Hamada before arriving in Merzouga. There you will ride camels, a fantastic adventure in the sand dunes. We will spend the night in an equipped desert camp in the middle of the Sahara dunes! This is a great opportunity to take lovely sunset and sunrise pictures. We will now explore the secrets of the Sahara and its unlimited horizons. Overnight in a Nomad Tent, dinner & breakfast

    You will wake up to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, possibly the best moment of the Merzouga desert. Make your way after breakfast to Fes through the Ziz valley which has an amazing view of palm trees that is worths a stop for pictures. Then, we drive to the cedar forest of Azrou. There you will see a colony of monkeys along the road which will keep you amused.

    You will have plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs as you will stop for coffee, lunch, photographs, travel through forests, valleys, and mountains. We will reach the Switzerland of Morocco which is Ifrane city. It is considered to be the cleanest and the best city in Morocco. We will then drop you off at your Riad / Hotel at around 6 PM in Fes.
